Less than three days to go and TOA is back in Berlin. The 2-day interdisciplinary tech festival is famous for its unique atmosphere, where the who-is-who of the founder-, maker- and creativity scene meet for talks, panels, art gazing, live music listening, networking and, last but not least, partying. TOA will be kicked off on Wednesday, Jul 16th with The Unconference, where speakers like SXSW-legend James Minor, FiftyThree CEO Georg Petschnigg and Discovery Channel host Mike North, amongst many others, talk about their experiences and thoughts of current tech affairs.
Red Bull vitalizes your mind with tech things that matter
Red Bull enables not only MaketechX to present our initiative and MaketechXlab at TOA, they made it happen that a bunch of interesting people from all over the world will come to TOA. We are so excited about the great opportunity to welcome Zakheni Ngubo from South Africa with his project Syafunda. In South Africa there is a shortage of good maths, science and accounting teachers. Syafunda has to goal to digitize the curriculum, enabling South Africans to build up a professional online profile through video lessons. Until today, 877 schools are registered in the network. Ngubo’s dream is to transform and innovate the education system through mobile technology. First of all, he will hold an Ignite Talk on stage at TOA on 16th of July, at 10.30 a.m. Don´t hesitate to meet him afterwards at our booth on the second floor. We are looking for a great MOOC cooperation or people who have a lot of know-how in this field – especially concerning technology. Zakheni is supported by Red Bull Amaphiko. The initiative aims to give wings to young pioneers who are using their talents, creativity and energy to make a positive difference in their community, and to inspire a broader audience to do the same.
Live on stage: our top suggestions
Also live on stage (16th of July, 5 p.m.) is one of our special guests from San Francisco: Eric Berlow from Vibrant Data Labs, a cloud-based tool to collaboratively map, analyze, visualize and explore complex networks.
On top we are proud to announce, that ‘Baby Bico’, an advanced baby monitoring device which tracks babies’ movements and sounds (a MaketechX supported project) is nominated to present itself at the Mini Hardware Pitch at TOA. If you want to talk to the founders Nábhila Pifano and Miha Sukic, you will find them on our booth at the second floor!
If you want to listen to a globally recognized leader and expert in the field of elite human performance, then you have the opportunity to listen to a very special Ignite Talk at TOA at 3.45 p.m.: Dr. Andrew Walshe (Andy) has been focused for over 20 years on the goal of ‘de-mystifying talent’ by researching and training individuals and teams across a vast network of world-class programs in sports, culture, military and business settings. He is the Director of High Performance at Red Bull and was responsible for profiling and coaching Felix Baumgartner before his supersonic free fall.
Back in the lab: SwimIng
TOA is also the perfect event for MaketechX to reconnect with the students from the SwimIng project, who will once again work in our MaketechXlab and are very keen to show all the progress they’ve made so far on building the prototype of their data glasses for athletes and setting up their business plan.
MaketechX proudly presents Matibabu
Another great project which we present on TOA is our supported MaketechX project Matibabu, a non instrusive malaria diagnostic system from Josiah Kavuma from Uganda and the MaketechX operator Nábhila Pifano. The system consists of an App, that combined with a small hardware device is able to give a first diagnosis in just 60 seconds without risk of infection. Everybody who wants to join our ‘Hands-on soldering workshop at TOA on the 16th: come to our Lab (2nd floor). It will take you 15-25 minutes to learn with our operators how to solder perfectly. (noon, 3 p.m., 5 p.m./ maximum 10 participants).
…and don’t forget to party!
After all this inspiring input it’s time to celebrate… with Red Bull High Ball delicious cocktails and DJs from 6 p.m. until 10.30 pm.
TOA, day 2
On day 2 of TOA, it’s all about the satellite events. Over 70 different events are organized all throughout the city so far, with more being added day by day. If you’re planning to attend satellite events, don’t be shy: early registration is highly recommended, as they tend to sell out very quickly, due to limited capacity. Check out the selection here and reserve your spot at, for example, a tour through the shiny new SoundCloud headquarters or the One Spark creator brunch.
